What do Brownies do? Brownies have fun! Their meetings are full of challenges, games and activities, usually ones that the Brownies have suggested themselves.
- Brownies belong to a Pack and work in small groups called Sixes. This gives each girl a group of ready-made friends to take care of her. It also makes her feel that she belongs to something special.
- Brownies meet regularly and there are often opportunities for Brownies to take part in special activities and events throughout the year.
- Any girl over the age of seven who wishes to can become a Brownie.
- The Brownie Promise is: I promise that I will do my best: To love my God, to serve the Queen and my country, to help other people and to keep the Brownie Guide Law.
- The Brownie Guide Law is: A Brownie Guide thinks of others before herself and does a good turn every day.
- Each Brownie chooses what she wants to wear from a range of items - it is up to each girl to decide which items she likes. This choice allows Brownies to be themselves but also makes them feel part of the Pack.

Programme
The Brownie programme is called the Brownie Adventure. The name reflects the excitement and fun it offers each Brownie and her Leaders. The Brownie Adventure is divided into three areas: "You", "Community" and "The World".
Each of these areas helps the Brownie to develop personal skills; to develop confidence, self-esteem and moral values; to understand her role in the communities in which she lives, and to develop an awareness of the larger world.
More information about the Brownie Adventure can be found here |
Brownie Interest Badges
One of the great things about being a Brownie is having lots of different badges to try. Brownie badges cover many hobbies and interests so a Brownie should be able to find one that she would like to do. Interest badges are valuable incentives for many Brownies to stretch their abilities and develop skills and knowledge. However, it is up to the individual Brownie whether they wish to do them or not. Brownies can choose to do interest badges as individuals, or in a small group. Brownies may decide in a Pow-wow to do a badge as a unit, or a Six may want to try a badge. If any group of Brownies does a badge together, each girl still needs to complete every part of it herself – and, of course, do her best!
The syllabuses for the Brownie interest badges can be found here. |
